Ran across this rather interesting post on the bipolarblast blog. Special thanks for making me aware of it. I am planning on watching this several times as I find it disturbing and yet fascinating. What if bipolar psychosis is actually a healing process that one can work through? Would it be worth it to try? Food for thought.

Since I originally posted this I have done some additional reading from this guy’s blog and am really having a hard time hearing his message over his condecending attitude. In his review of Kay Redfield Jamison’s book, An Unquite Mind, he feels the need to diss her priviledged lifestyle by asserting that he is somehow better than her because of his working class background and life experiences. That’s pretty shallow thinking in my book. Nothing in his review is new. There are many reviews out on the Internet from people who could not associate with Ms. Redfield Jamison’s life. This was my experience as well. However, this is her life or what she chose to share of it.

Now, I am not saying that he doesn’t have a point with his videos and his book. I am saying that he makes it difficult to listen to him when he’s playing the I’m-better-and-smarter-than-you game.

I should also make it clear that the author distinguishes between mental illness and spiritual emergencies. He does not say that all mental illness is a spiritual emergency rather that sometimes this is the case and if so, should be treated in a manner different than specified by standard western psychiatric practices.
