WordPress has a cool feature where you are able to view the search engine queries that people use to find your blog. I thought it would be educational to occasionally address the underlying questions behind the “top searches”. Here goes:
living with a manic depressive
There are millions of people diagnosed with manic depressive disorder living successful, productive lives. Improved medication, therapy and a better understanding of the course of the disease have led to better outcomes since the 1970’s. While it’s not all rainbows and roses treatments are much improved. Regardless, it can be very trying to be in a relationship with a person who has bipolar disorder. During my untreated days I have personally destroyed more friendships and potential relationships than I care to remember. There are a number of excellent books on living with a person with manic depressive disorder. One that comes to mind is “Surviving Manic Depression: A manual on bipolar disorder for patients, families and providers” by E. Fuller Torrey M.D and Michael B. Knable D.O. Check out your library or your favorite bookstore.
NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and DBSA, Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance, have support groups for families and friends around the U.S. There are groups similar to this in other countries.
manic depression +world falling apart
When you are in the throws of an extreme mood swing it can definitely feel like the world is falling apart. This is not meant to minimize what you are experiencing. When I am in the deepest pit of a bipolar depression the world has not only fallen apart it has collapsed in on itself. I cannot feel anything but pain and anguish. Mania is the opposite. I have not personally experienced a type 1 mania but have had it described as a euphoria that goes horribly out of control. Mixed states or agitated depression can make you feel like you are losing your mind as you are raging with anger or quake and cry with sadness and excess energy.
The most helpful thing that I have learned from therapy and meditation is awareness. While being aware of the fact that you are depressed or manic won’t make the symptoms any less it does serve as a reminder that this state is temporary and will pass. This knowledge has gotten me through tough times.
side effects of eating liverwurst
Seriously? I didn’t realize that this was such a concern. Liver is good for you in moderation. Only eat the kind where the animals have been feed an organic diet and are hormone free. The liver is a filter organ. Do you really want to eat the liver of something that has been feed hormones and antibiotics?
stable fuck
So… are you stable as fuck or do you like having sex in stables? If it’s the former, good for you. If it’s the latter, remember that straw can be irritating in sensitive areas.

Hi, you don’t know me but your writing strums a chord with me. You sound like a fighter. Hang in there.

Holly – thank you for the compliment. I have a friend who calls me a fighter too which is amusing because I imagine myself in boxer’s gloves. This may end up being the topic of a future post.
